A Preemptive, Preemptive Strike?
I heard on the radio news this morning on the way to work that Iraq may be planning a preemptive strike against our forces in Kuwait to stop us from attacking. I’ve been thinking/worrying about this for some time now, and the 970 “last chances” that Saddam has been given to disarm have only given him more time to prepare. The scene as I’ve seen it in my mind involves Saddam detonating a nuclear device or dropping a chem/bio weapon on the mass of troops that we have in Kuwait, which would be devastating.
We’ve heard recently that when President Bush decides to strike, he will be giving a “two minute warning” of 48 hours or so. This “final” delay is to ostensibly give Saddam one last chance to disarm/go into exile, and to let journalists, foreign nationals and idiot human shields get out of the country. But he should not give that warning. When the President decides it’s time, the order should be given to General Franks and the attack should begin. Immediately. With no delay. Or, as the French would say, “Tout de suite! Allons-y!” Anyone who is not Iraqi who is still in country at this late date should know what they’re in for. We do not need to give the Butcher of Baghdad any (more) advance notice that we’re coming in. That will only result in more American lives being lost. Our actions must be swift and sure because we are right in what we’re doing, regardless of what the French think.
And one other thing. For any country that receives any sort of foreign aid from the United States and has refused to help us, that money stream should immediately dry up. This may sound harsh, but when you take money from us, you have to expect that you may one day have to “perform a service for your Godfather.” That time is now, and if a country is not willing to step up to the plate, they should get no more assistance from us. I’m sick of sending billions of dollars overseas to countries that either speak ill of us or are now refusing to help us.
