Sometimes I Hate Republicans…
Well, they’ve done it. The Republicans in Congress, in there never-ending quest to save us from ourselves, have passed a bill that seeks to stop all online gambling. Well, by “all” they mean “anything except lotteries.” At least the last version of the bill that I saw had that exclusion. According to that Bloomberg article, President Bush is expected to sign the bill.
These people make me sick. They need to be more concerned about NOT covering up the sexual liaisons of Rep. Foley, instead of trying to stop 900,000 Americans from enjoying poker online.
Oh yeah, those gutless wonders didn’t even have the balls to actually try to pass this bill on its own. So what did they do? They stuck it onto a PORTS SECURITY bill to ensure it would go through. They knew that the public did NOT want this bill passed, but they snuck it in anyway. Lousy Bastards.
But what am I gonna do? The Libertarians don’t stand a chance in hell of ever winning any major office and, besides, they wouldn’t bother to defend this country from explosive Islamic “peaceniks”, or the Mexican invasion, so those guys are out. As I said before, I can’t vote Democrat. I’m not so desperate to play online poker that I will sell my country out to the party of defeat. So I’m left either not voting, or continuing to live on the Republican Plantation and voting for “da massa.”
One thing I am going to do is join the Poker Players Alliance, who are doing everything they can to keep online poker in America. If you care about your freedom to game as you choose, you should join, too.

Daniel:
As long as there are Republicans who, like you, stay on the plantation, they won’t learn. You need to vote your convicitions regardless of what happens at the end of the election. Stop voting for the lesser of two evils, and start voting for the best candidate.
October 2, 2006, 16:25:50Once enough people do that, it won’t matter that we have a two party system today.
Joey:
OK, who should I vote for, then? The Democrats and Libertarians are both non-starters. Make a suggestion. Though the thought of “voting my conscience” while allowing Democrats to take control of Congress makes me equally sick.
October 2, 2006, 16:37:38Daniel:
I personally don’t care what tag is behind a person’s name in politics, and have voted for R, D, and L before. What I care about is the person’s individual philosophy.
October 2, 2006, 21:14:20It doesn’t bother me if the Democrats take control of Congress, because the Republicans have done absolutely nothing to earn my vote for me to send them back.
You can do what you want, of course, but I personally will always, forever and ever, vote my conscience - that is, I will always vote FOR a candidate, and never AGAINST a different candidate.
If my doing that means the Democrats end up controlling the government, so be it - the Republicans need to give me a reason to vote for them.
Jason:
Daniel is dead on. Vote for the candidate not the party. The Dems certainly can’t do any worse than the so-called party of moral values and fiscal sense. Oh wait…the Republicans are neither of those.
October 3, 2006, 14:48:25I’d also suggest you stop reading the right-wing garbage, turn off Fox News, and look at some of the people the Dems are fielding in various races across the country. I think you’d be surprised.
The whole “cut-and-run” thing is so old and worn out yet that’s the best the Republicans can do even if there is no truth behind it. Apparently you’ve bought into that crap.
Want a good example? A local race for the House has the Republican candidate calling the Democrat candidate a cut-and-run candidate yet the Democrat lost her legs fighting in Iraq 2 years ago as a helicopter pilot. It’s disgusting but its the shit your party of choice will do to keep power. Now we’re seeing it blow up in their faces with the Foley matter and the best the White House can do is say there have been worse scandals than some “naughty emails”.
Jason
Joey:
If the Dems take over the Congress, look for an immediate pull-out from Iraq, which would have terrible consequences, both there and here. Remember our pull-out from Somalia? And just because someone has lost limbs in battle doesn’t mean they get to claim the high-ground forever. Max Cleland has been trying to do that for years, and he’s one of the worst for wanting to cun-and-run.
October 3, 2006, 15:42:53Ah yes, the old “FOX News is evil” canard. While FOX is certainly not unbiased, I’ll take a Conservative lean over a blantantly liberal bias any day.
As I said in my original article, the Foley thing is ugly. It looks like the leadership knew what that pervert was up to for quite some time. If that’s true, multiple heads need to roll. Being indignant when Clinton bones an intern is fine, but when someone in your own party is doing something similar, you have to be just as outraged. Circling the wagons is not a way to show outrage.
