About Me
I have been developing software professionally for 18 years, but I actually began my love affair with computers and software development in 1983, when I was 13. I began with a Commodore VIC-20, its BASIC interpreter and a book. Ever since, I’ve been a voracious consumer of technical information and computer languages. In 2001 I began speaking at conferences and user group meetings and in 2002, I was able to share my passion with an even larger audience when I co-authored a book called Ant Developer’s Handbook. I have written several pieces of software that I have released as open source, including a module that is included in Ruby on Rails. One of my major strengths is my ability to quickly learn new technologies and put them into practice.
In 2006 I decided to learn Koine Greek so that I could read the “original” texts of the New Testament. This has been a fascinating journey, and I’ve learned a lot about the construction of what we now call “The Bible.”
In 2007 I started learning Spanish with my son. I resisted learning this language for a long time for political reasons, but once I started, I fell in love with it. It’s a beautifully regular language with a wonderful flow.
I’m also a very opinionated and fun guy. I am mostly conservative, considering myself more of a lower-case libertarian than a Republican. I am essentially unrepresented by the major parties.
I’ve worked for several companies since 1990, including CIBA Vision, EDS, BellSouth and BravePoint. Between 2004 and 2008, I built Jobkabob all by myself. I am currently an architect with Spectrum K12 School Solutions. We’re building a very exciting software suite for education using Java and Adobe Flex.
Did I mention that I wrote a book? Perhaps you’d like to buy a copy.
