Unless you are living under a rock, you have heard the controversy surrounding the “ground zero mosque.” Essentially, a group of Muslims want to build an “Islamic community center,” that will house a mosque, two blocks away from the former World Trade Center. This has sparked a firestorm of protest from the right, claiming it is everything from insensitive to the next terrorist attack itself. This has annoyed me greatly.

One of the founding principles of this country was religious freedom. This means that you can support any religion you want, or no religion, and not be molested by the government. Increasingly, those on the right construe this as, “You can be any religion you want, as long as it’s Christian.” If you are a Buddhist, a Hindu or, (God forbid!) a Muslim, (I’m not sure if they consider atheists better or worse than Muslims), then your rights and desires are not relevant. This is a clear case of religious freedom: these people want to built a house or worship, on private property, using private funds. There is no compelling reason why they should not be allowed to do it. Unless you believe that all Muslims are terrorists.

And that’s exactly what most of the commentators on the right seem to think. Listen to the statements of Newt Gingrich, that moron Sarah Palin, or any of the talking heads on Fox News. They are all screaming about how “it just isn’t right” to build this Mosque “at ground zero” where so many lost their lives. Yes, 3,000 people did lose their lives at the WTC site, and yes, the attack was carried out by Muslim extremists, but that does not mean that all Muslims are terrorists.

Now, if you were to search my blog, you would probably find some inflammatory statements made by me about Muslims. Statements that might indicate that I considered all Muslims to be terrorists. I wish to publicly repudiate those statements right now. (Or “refudiate” them, as the learned Sarah Palin would say.) I’m not making excuses for my former statements, (well, maybe I am…) but I don’t think I was thinking about the situation rationally. I was caught up in a patriotic ferver, that I now see was incorrect. I’ll say it again: not all Muslims are terrorists.

In fact, a very small minority of them are terrorists, or support the actions of terrorists.

“But wait,” you say, “the Koran is ‘full of violence’ and commands by their ‘god’ to kill the unbelievers.” Indeed. May I then direct you to your bible to that part called the “old testament.” That’s the part that lots of Christians seem to forget about. There’s more violence in there than you can shake a stick at. Does that make us a violent religion? No. See what I’m getting at?

“But wait,” you say again, “those Muslims want to spred Islam all over the world! They want everyone to be a Muslim.” Indeed. Now, may I direct you to your bible, to Matthew 28: 19-20, which reads: “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

What this all comes down to is a bunch of Christians who are scared of Islam and don’t like to see it spreading. Despite their claims of “But I have a Muslim friend!” or “I don’t care if they build another Mosque, just build it somewhere else!” or “I don’t have a problem with them building it, but building it there is just insensitive!” it all amounts to the same thing. They don’t like Muslims, and they want them to go away.

I think they should be allowed to build it. I think the protesters are wrong, but I support their right to protest and make their opinions known, as long as they remain non-violent. That is my main concern. I wonder how long it will take, after construction begins, before the site is vandalized (or worse) by those who oppose it. “But that wouldn’t be very Christian!” you say. Indeed, it would not.

I have never seen a religion that tried to demand more of those who choose not to follow it than does Islam. Every time you turn around, Muslims are demanding more and more special treatment from those around them who have chosen not to follow their nutty (barbaric) religion. To wit: Imposing Islamic law.

The response by the British schools should be “Thanks, but no thanks.” Of course, in this time of political correctness and not wanting to offend Muslims (the most easily-offended people on Earth), a good many of those demands will probably be instituted. Or heads will roll.

I just read this story about how the judge has thrown out the confession of the worthless piece of human debris who raped and murdered Jessica Lunsford, because he supposedly asked for a lawyer, but wasn’t given one. I’m very angry right now.

Here’s the rub. The guy was picked up. He told the cops what he’d done, how he did it, and where to find her body. The cops found everything, just as he said. This is one of those cases where a trial should not even be an option. He confessed. He told them everything. They verified the facts. At that point, he should have been taken out behind the police station and shot. Or, as my friend just suggested, taken to the public square and shot. Or put in a cell where he could watch a gallows being built, just for him. When a perp confesses, and the details match, that should be it. Game. Set. Match. This animal doesn’t deserve to continue drawing breath after what he did to that little girl.

This case should never have seen the light of day. This woman should be tossed into a looney bin, because she is clearly insane. The lawyer who took her case should be disbarred and fined heavily. The judge who is allowing this farce to continue should be removed from the bench and also fined. And all three should have to pay Letterman’s legal fees plus damages. This is an outright abuse of the legal system, but sadly, none of this is going to happen.

I just read this story about a group of teen-aged boys who apparently decided to combine puppies and fireworks for a bit of fun. They killed six puppies and wounded an older dog during their merry-making. Police are searching for them.

When found, their parents and various psychologists and “activists” will be paraded around to treat us to a litany of reasons why these “fine, upstanding young men” really “didn’t mean any harm” and what “good kids” they are. BS, says I! These are little serial-killers in training and they need to be punished. I’m thinking the appropriate punishment would be to treat them the same way they treated those defenseless puppies, i.e. one Roman candle in the mouth and another entering from the other direction. “Horrors! You vile, cruel SOB!” you might say. Whatever. If these juvenile delinquents are willing to treat puppies this way at this stage of their lives, what’s next? Probably little boys and then on to women jogging in the park. They need to be dealt with severely right now. Actual prison time is appropriate, but depending on their ages, they would probably only get juvenile detention. And depending on the judge, they may only get “community service.” Like that does any good…

Why on earth do some deaf people wear their deafness like a freaking badge of honor? I’m talking about those leaders of the “deaf community” who adamantly deny that being deaf is a disability and actively try to stop anyone who is deaf from using any means to better their lives. Just like when Rush Limbaugh announced that he had gone deaf and would soon be getting a Cochlear Implant. He got calls and letters from these so-called leaders asking him not to do it and to “embrace his deafness.” That’s horse shit. Being deaf is not natural. It is a disability and it is a handicap, and if there is a technology or procedure that can restore some degree of hearing, you should take advantage of it!!! Wake up people! If I ever lost my hearing or it happened to my wife or son, you can absolutely count on me to do whatever I could, using any technology available, to restore as much hearing as possible. You can make bank on that.

What got me on this is this CNN story about a man who has invented a glove that will convert American Sign Language into actual spoken words using a computer to translate. This has the potential to be an amazing thing for deaf people if only they will embrace it instead of this silly notion of deafness as a “culture.”

Here’s still more evidence that Islam is not a “religion of peace” as some would have us believe. In Sudan a group of Islamic military forces attacked a village and slaughtered the residents. The even burned a Christian pastor and his family alive.

I just read these blogs here and here and am outraged. WABI in Maine is reporting that some of their illustrious public school teachers who have, shall we say, a certain opinion of our millitary are harassing children of deployed National Guardsmen. These kids are between the ages of seven and nine and their teachers are telling them that their parents are “bad people” for going off to war. Can you believe this? The Guard is looking into it but according to a story on the WABI page, the school superintendent is trying to downplay the incidents.

Any teacher who is found guilty of making comments like that should be immediately fired. Unless of course that teacher has tenure and will get no more than a verbal warning…
